Free routing on PC with nRoute E-mail
A few years ago, Garmin removed GPS functionality from MapSource, and put it into a separate free application called nRoute. nRoute could display your live GPS position on a Garmin vector map, do routing, and more. But just a while ago, Garmin pulled all links to nRoute, and now sells Garmin Mobile PC that does basically the same thing.
However nRoute is still available for download on the Garmin Website, see the links below. The user interface of nRoute looks very much like Mapsource. User Interface of Gamin Mobile PC looks very much like the UI of Nuvi, Zumo and Mobile XT of course. nRoute looks outdated, but hell it's still free.

The Garmin nRoute Download link is now dead - they've removed it. Fortunately the file and earlier versions can be accessed here: http://gawisp.com/perry/nroute/

"I just got my Nuvi a couple of days ago, used Metrowizz and made up 476 megs of Europe maps. Thats way more than I will need for my vacation. I copied the file as suggested into the Garmin directory on the Nuvi...works great. Thanks for Metrowizz and your help in getting it up and running. I changed my location to places I will be staying in Europe and it routes to my destination with street names and turns called out. Garmin makes great products, you make them work better. Thank you!"

"Outstanding Product - worth its weight in Gold! This is just a terrific addition that makes the Garmin Etrex a great little GPS instead of just an ok device. For $6 (US) it cannot be beat. I certainly hope they continue to create products that support the Garmin GPS portfolio. Well done guys!"
