Question: When I start Mapsource, I get an error message saying there's a registry problem with Mapsource. How to solve this?
The problem is there is probably a registry key left behind pointing to a map(family) on your harddrive that is no longer available. You can solve it as follows.
Easiest way, but most work:
1. Uninstalla everything (mapsource and maps)
2. Start registry editor (Regedit.exe)
3. remove the following key completely:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin
4. Install Mapsource and maps again.
This should fix the problem.
If you find this to much work, you can try to find the registry key that is pointing to an unavailable map and remove that registry key.
1. Start registry editor (Regedit.exe)
2. Inspect the keys at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Families
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Products
Remove any product-key that contains a key that is pointing to a directory that is not available.
Good luck, and please be careful with editing your registry (removing the wrong key could really break your computer.) Make a backup first.
Post in the forum if you have any problems.
