Buying a Garmin GPS Unit in the United States has a lot of advantages when you're living in Europe because they are a lot cheaper. There's a disadvantage though because the build in basemap is from the United States. To overcome this problem simply download our free European Basemap and upload it to your GPS unit. It's possible to combine it in a mapset with other routable or non-routable maps. This European Basemap by itself is non-routable!

I copied the file as suggested into the Garmin directory on the Nuvi...works great. Thanks for Metrowizz and your help in getting it up and running. I changed my location to places I will be staying in Europe and it routes to my destination with street names and turns called out. Garmin makes great products, you make them work better.
